The first half was fairly even except for Wigan’s early goal – 5th minute Leighton Baines (D) from free-kick, taken short and set-up from just outside 18 yard box right of the D.
The second half mostly belonged to Man Utd. In a five minute span the Red Devils netted two goals, one by Nemanja Vidic – a header off of a corner kick, 62′ – and the other by Louis Saha. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put the game away with his goal in added time.
